Listening to Otis Redding at Home During Christmas

Posted 12-20-2007 at 02:05 PM by u2popmofo
Going home for the holidays, and just spending time at home in general, seems to feel stranger for me the older I get. It's weird to feel disconnected and uncomfortable in a place that you have more memories and experiences in than anywhere else. Not surprisingly, Will Sheff of Okkervil River can explain it better than I can. I've got dreams to remember.

Home is where beds are made and butter is added to toast.
On a cold afternoon you can float room to room like a ghost.

Will the flood behind me put out the fire inside me?

Posted 07-28-2006 at 01:48 AM by u2popmofo
After hundreds of thousands of prayers, after thousands of church services attended, after unnumerable lessons from family and teachers, after tens of thousands of hours spent studying the doctrine and the scriptures, after my own conversion, after dedicating my life to my faith, after becoming an ordained minister, after spending two years on another continent and learning another language to share my own beliefs, after thousands of testimonies given from my own mouth, after helping others to overcome...

24hrs to get to Hong Kong

Posted 03-17-2005 at 05:59 AM by u2popmofo
Sitting in my hotel room looking out at a ferry going across the bay towards lit up sky scrapers across the water makes me realize I'm not in Utah anymore. Yup, after leaving my apartment at 6am on Wednesday, I'm finally here in my hotel room in Hong Kong at 9pm Thursday evening local time. My watch tells me it's 6am in Utah, so it seems to have taken me exactly 24 hrs to get here. It feels longer than that.

The flight over wouldnt have been bad if I wasnt sitting in a middle seat...

Holy crapoli, I'm in freaking Tokyo

Posted 01-27-2005 at 03:47 AM by u2popmofo
Wow, I dont know if I ever thought I'd be able to make it back here. For those of you who dont know, I lived here in Japan for 2 years (97-99). I'd wanted to get a chance to come back here since then, but I didnt know if it ever would happen. I'm presently typing from my hotel room in the Meguro ward of Tokyo, while looking out the window at the beautiful lit up street. I've had the lyrics to 'City of Blinding Lights' in my head all night, the imagery in that song just fits.

So,...

In Remote Part

Posted 01-17-2005 at 04:13 PM by u2popmofo
In the beginning, there were answers
Then they came along and changed
All these questions and their answers seem to change

So I’ll wait ‘til I find the remote part of your heart
Nowhere else will let us choose a comfortable start

We stop in every passing place
To watch the world move faster than we do
Watch it pass with our eyes closed the way we usually choose to

So I’ll wait ‘til I find the remote part...

I was looking for a job and then I found a job.....

Posted 09-08-2004 at 04:59 PM by u2popmofo
Heaven knows I'm ANYTHING BUT miserable now!

As many of you know, I've been on a seemingly never-ending job hunt for quite some time now. My efforts were finally validated today when I was extended a position by a company here in Utah. My job title is 'North East Asia Market Coordinator'. I'll definitely be getting to use my Japanese skills in this position (with a high possibility of making a trip back to Japan!), and I'll also probably be able to use my actual degree...

An Open Letter to Bang & Clatter

Posted 07-29-2004 at 08:05 AM by u2popmofo
Dear Bang & Clatter,

Though I've never met you, you are one of my greatest friends. What? You wonder how I could consider an intangible section of an internet site a friend? What about all the great and amazing times we've had? How about the time when we all quoted Radiohead lyrics and laughed about it? Which time you say? The time when it was awesome! Yeah, that time. How about the time when we all discussed that really awesome album by one of our favorite groups that...

What kind of freaks make a 6 hr round trip to go to a CD store???

Posted 07-20-2004 at 08:32 PM by u2popmofo
The awesome kind

Yes, I spent all of last week in OklaHOma (7/9-7/16) with the female equivalent of me, HeartlandGirl.

Here are some of the highlights & fun times of the trip:

-We drove 3 hrs to Dallas to go to the Virgin Megastore on Saturday to shop for CDs. Can you say "music addicts"? I knew you could. We spent about 2 1/2 hrs there too....and both walked out with awesome CDs. Then we spent another...

A RUSH and a push and the land that we stand on is ours

Posted 07-01-2004 at 07:45 AM by u2popmofo
Wowza, wowza. Where to begin? Tonight, I saw RUSH in concert for free. A buddy of mine scored some free season tickets to an ampitheater in SLC, this was the first show we went to. (We drove up to go to see 'The Dead' in concert last night, but ended up selling our tickets 50 seconds after we we got out of the car). This concert ended up being one of the most unintentional-humor-filled experiences I've ever been involved in.

We both went into this knowing only about 3 to 4 RUSH...

Halo

Posted 06-06-2004 at 05:43 AM by u2popmofo
I never felt like this with anyone before
You only have to smile and I'm dizzy
You make the world go round
A thousand times an hour
Just touch my head
And send me spinning
I never felt like this with anyone before
You show me colours and I'm crying
You hold my eyes in yours
And open up the world
I can't believe all of this

I want to keep this feeling
Deep inside of me
I want you always...

5/27/04 - The Shins Concert Review - AKA "THAT'S JAMES MERCER!!"

Posted 05-30-2004 at 12:54 AM by u2popmofo
Well, I attended an absolutely fantastic concert on Thursday. I was accompanied by none other than Interference's own HeartlandGirl! She joked/told me/insinuated/threatened that she'd go to the concert with me when I bought the tickets in March, I never thought she actually would! I'm glad she did come along, it was much more enjoyable seeing them with someone else who is a Shins' fan. We got to SLC about an hour before the first band took to the stage. We got some sweet seats that...

Lifetime

Posted 04-25-2004 at 03:54 PM by u2popmofo
For Jennifer:

Just like a sunny day
can turn all dark and gray,
this game goes on and on.
Out on the streets,
broken dreams they come so cheap.
But no one can leave me for dead
'cuz i got one good fight
left in me tonight,
and the most beautiful girl in my head.

Sometimes she comes to me in a song,
Sometimes she comes in a dream.
She's all the joy in my heart,
She's...
