Um ok not that I haven't been lurking in and out but have been Internet-less at home for about four months or so. I think I made one post in that time using the computer in some net cafe.

So what have I been up to?

1) Big news has probably been my scholarship app was successful. I'll be heading out to the UK next year for studies before returning to work in the teaching service. Thanks for all the well-wishes in the ZC thread.

2) I'm seeing Death Cab...

Yeah thanks to the Mosaic Music Festival. Love those guys.

Saw the Roots first. Never been to a hip-hop concert before and it was definitely an experience. Not familiar with a lot of the songs but was too busy dancing to care. They did this awesome jam at the end of their main set that incorporated a helluva lot of stuff not by them, things like 'Planet Rock', 'Movin' On Up', a bit of 'Drop It Like It's Hot' and 'Roc Boys' by Jay-Z. Awesome stuff, all live too, no DJ in sight. Black...

In other words, a whopping $30 pay increase, a rank to sew on (I'm planning not to bother though) and I no longer have to call myself 'private' but 'lance corporal', but it's still the same bloody system.

I've decided to apply for teaching scholarship come September when I can begin registering. Here's hoping.

They played 38 songs in about three hours.

They didn't play 'A Letter To Elise'.

But they played 'Fire in Cairo' and 'Kyoto Song'.

And I can die happy since I've heard 'Pictures of You' live, even if the crowd were so ****ing dead for it. I was hoping to get one of those moments, you know, to start crying and hugging the person next to me but in the end I just kinda clapped and sang along with Robert Smith, although no one else seemed to be doing...

aka operationally ready date, aka the date i finally get out of the bloody army (or actually get placed on 'active reserve', so it's just the date i stop being a full-time serviceman)

i really don't know what i'm going to do after that. a lot of people i know already have career choices and are making steps in that direction, whereas i'm just drifting...hopefully something will come my way

So I have passed out of basic medic course, feel really proud to be a medic. Have the red cross armband and all and am certified to do triage and cpr and what not.

Anyway we were all gathered in the auditorium today waiting for our postings which the not so pleasant formation sergeant major (a master warrant officer who i will no doubt see a lot through a lot of impromptu visits to the medical centre) read out everyone's posting.

In the end I got posted to a camp which...

I have to admit:

I really, really, really, really, really like that song 'Hands Down' by um, Dashboard Confessional.

Everything else I've heard from them is pretty lousy but that one song is pretty catchy. So yeah.

And I think I saw Michael Stipe sing on it once, I remember being horrified because Chris Carraba minus all the studio wizardry sounds even worse than me singing (and trust me this is some feat).
