Thanks everybody for your good wishes in my last post. I've been getting lots of rest and drinking lots of fluids, which they told me was important to do after the CT scan.

The doctor's office called this morning, and I do have mono I'm relieved to know what's wrong, but also very worried about how this is going to affect my work schedule, not to mention my planned move next month. I've emailed my boss, and I know I'll just have to take it one day at a time and see how I feel....

I took my first sick day today. I've had some sort of bug for about a week, and a few days ago I started having a mild pain in my left side. By last night, it had gotten pretty uncomfortable, so I took the day off and went to the walk-in clinic. The physician's assistant there was stumped by what might be causing the pain, so he sent me to the hospital for a CT scan and bloodwork.

Means I have to get up really early

I don't like to have to rush around in the morning, so I need to get up a little earlier than most people probably would so I have time to have my coffee and get ready. I'm going in earlier than I need to today since it's my first day of classes and I still need to pick up my office keys and get my class lists, but if I like being on campus by 9, I'll be getting up by 6:30 until I move and lose the hour commute.

Tomorrow is my very first faculty meeting, and I just remembered that I have homework to do for it. We have a writing professor from CUNY coming to talk with us, and we have to read two of her articles. The discussion time is three hours, so I guess I'd better make sure I have something to say!

I've had a week's worth of orientation sessions in the department, with human resources, and with a benefits rep, and every single person I've met at the college has been super nice. Genuinely...

I'm off to visit my family for about two weeks, so I won't be on here again until probably the 15th. Tomorrow I'm going to my grandma's 80th birthday picnic, and I'll get to see a bunch of family I haven't seen in a few years. I don't really have any other plans for the trip, but it will be great to get away from here for awhile.

This morning my neighbor decided to go for a ride on his motorcycle. He's a retired guy, and since my apartment is right across the street from his driveway, I often see him coming and going on his bike this time of year. This morning I was sitting here at my computer, and I looked out the window to see him stopped beside my car on his bike. It looked like something was wrong with it, then he got off of it and touched the front corner of my car. That's when I realized he'd hit it!

I'm still waiting to hear about the job I interviewed for last week. The dean was on vacation all of last week, so I knew I wouldn't hear until this week, but now the waiting is driving me crazy. It sounded like a done deal last week--I'd be replacing a professor who wanted at least one semester but most likely the entire year on leave--and they know I need to inform the other school where I'd be teaching one class this fall.

I'm a worrier by nature, so I can't stop from worrying,...

I have a job interview on Tuesday!

In April I applied for a one-year teaching position at a private college about an hour from where I live. They had five positions available, so I had pretty high hopes, but I found out in June that I didn't get one. I was really disappointed, because it sounded like the perfect job for me, since it would give me full-time teaching experience at a small school, and I'm hoping to eventually find a permanent job at a small school.

My photos from the African Well Auction arrived a little while ago...and they're all bent

Last year, they were packed very carefully, but the packing wasn't nearly as good this year. I'm going to contact the seller, but I have a hard time believing these photos will be able to be replaced, and I don't want them if they're bent right in the middle.
