Nostalgia overload

Posted 09-15-2008 at 09:28 PM by No spoken words
Howdy.

This weekend, I am heading home to NYC for two different but very highly anticipated events.

Sunday night is the last baseball game ever at Yankee Stadium. Some of you might know that I am a huge sports fan, and of all the teams I root for, none mean more to me than the Yankees. So, while I feel very lucky to be able to attend, it is a little sad to say goodbye. That might seem odd....it's just a building, but, it's a building that houses memories of mine...

Life is a circle

Posted 08-12-2008 at 09:52 PM by No spoken words
Odd day today.

Last night, my sister called me and left me a message...she and her girlfriend are going the fertility route to get pregnant, and she wanted to let me know that this morning was the day they'd inseminate. I'm very excited for them both, and, look forward to becoming an Uncle....and seeing my parents finally become Grandparents.

So the circle? My Grandmother passed away this morning. She was 89 and, truly, lived a GREAT life. She was very charismatic...

My first entry since this became a blog

Posted 07-08-2008 at 08:40 PM by No spoken words
Hi.

So, this entry is about me being pleased.

Why?

Tomorrow I leave for Los Angeles. Business trip, but, I'll stay through Sunday morning. So, I have not been back in over a year, and am excited to see as many of my friends as possible. I miss them more than I can really convey, so this will be a truly great trip for me.

Then, I come back to Chicago Sunday night....but, bounce right back out, to NYC, to go to the fucking MLB All-Star...

Building something

Posted 09-06-2007 at 04:53 PM by No spoken words
Hi.

Um, it's possible that some people reading this know that I not too long ago moved from Los Angeles to Chicago to take on a new professional challenge. I also wanted to shake my personal life up a bit (10 years in LA is a long time for a NY'er), but the main thrust was to go to Chicago and help build a new television entity.

It's not too often in your career that you get to work for a start up. And I figured that while I was still fairly young and energetic,...

2 months

Posted 06-28-2007 at 12:28 AM by No spoken words
since I moved to Chicago. Well, slightly under, but still.

I think that the move is both the smartest and the most challenging thing I've done in years.

The challenge is not adjusting to a new job, or adjusting to a new city, it's adjusting to a new state of mind. I've never lived in a place where I basically knew nobody. When I moved from NY to LA, that was a huge move, on many levels, but, my best friend had moved to LA a month ahead of me, and that made a big...

It's all happening

Posted 04-27-2007 at 02:19 AM by No spoken words
Hi.

Will do my best to keep this brief.

Today was my last day of work at my old network. After 9.5 years.

My department made a collage for me, each department member added photos of themselves, photos of Chicago or stuff from the past, and wrote haikus, because they know haiku cracks me up. It was a great gift, something to remember them by, and it was hard to not cry, as I might seem to be nothing but a wiseass on this site, but, I'm a pretty emotional...

Life can be strange

Posted 04-04-2007 at 11:54 PM by No spoken words
I'm really, truly going to endeavor to make a very long story short.

Here we go:

I'm moving to Chicago the first week of May.

The job there that I had turned down came my way again, but it was tweaked. Apparently, when I turned it down they took my reasons for doing so to heart, because all of my issues were resolved.

And so, I gleefully accepted yesterday. What a whirlwind few days, and, what a whirlwind the next few weeks, and months,...

Staying put

Posted 03-19-2007 at 03:24 PM by No spoken words
Hey to anyone reading this. I expect this entry to get lost in the shuffle of it being Monday and the fact that a lot of interlanders are getting back from the NYC gathering and hopefully will be telling their stories. That NY gathering is bittersweet for me, as I was supposed to go, but due to professional circumstances, I was unable to attend. So, while I'm thrilled so many of you got together, despite the weather, I'm a little bummed (more than I thought I'd be) that I was unable to attend....

Nerves and moves and colds and "what do you bring to the table?"

Posted 01-25-2007 at 09:52 PM by No spoken words
Hey everyone (anyone is more appropriate, actually)...

I'll do my best to be brief here.

I'm a tad nervous right now, because it is 6:30pm and my work day is almost over, and so it just dawned on me that I have 2 interviews tomorrow. One with a VP of recruiting in HR, the other with the President of the Network I'm trying to get a job with....this is for the Chicago gig I mentioned in what I think was my previous journal entry.

I'm dealing from strength...

Time off for...no particular behavior, plus more

Posted 12-28-2006 at 03:18 PM by No spoken words
Alrighty, let's see....this'll be long (as usual, sorry)

Because work is so dead the week between Xmas and NYE, I do like a lot of the executives do and I just take the week off. This is the 3rd year I've done so, and, I must say, I enjoy it. I have just had a lot of time off to visit NYC, then Hawaii, but, it's nice to have some dead time here in LA. Been able to see a few movies (I've posted a thread about this, but, I'll say it here, too...go see Children of Men), read more...

Happy Holidays plus bonus Journal musings

Posted 12-20-2006 at 06:41 PM by No spoken words
Hi all.

I just wanted to take some time to ramble about the Holidays and where my head is at right now, and, at the end, I'm sure I'll wish you all Happy and Joyous holidays. Skip to the bottom right now if that's all you'd like to read.

Saw Little Miss Sunshine the other day for the first time. My favorite comedy of the year, I think, ahead of Borat. Just seeing such a portrayal of a family, warts and quirks and all, was very rewarding to me. Much easier for...
