Mother's Cookies, an Oakland institution for 92 years, has been shuttered, its owner seeking bankruptcy protection for the company.

The ending was abrupt: Workers for the company, which shifted its baking and distribution operations to plants in Ohio and Canada in 2006, told workers Friday that operations would cease and cookies would no longer be made as of Monday.

A few high school camping trips to the beach I was sure based on the moon that I would witness a grunion run. I'd read as much as I could find on grunion (this was before google) and took my post sitting on the beach assuring my friends who would quickly give up that I would see the Grunion run. I really hate goodbyes. I think there should be a way to avoid them. Like I haven't seen one of my very best friends in years. If I'd known I'd not see her for years or ever again it would have been a sad hard fought emotional goodbye. It's been 6 days plus the week prior I was in pain but thought I'd just pulled a muscle. I'm on all sorts of meds but it shows no signs of retreating. Anti-virals 5 times a day and switched from narcotic pain management to neurontin then lyrica (seizure meds). The pain patch has done absolutely nothing. My nerves are on fire

I found an accordian folder of old papers. I've always had a hard time throwing out a paper that was more than 5 pages. I figure it took too much time to create. Some of these were actually created on a TYPEWRITER!! I remember staying up all night in high school and still finding damn typos and finally turning the thing in anyway but the thought of typing out that entire page again was too exhausting.

They seem as excited as I do. I just told them about my trip and they were fine with it so I start as soon as I get back.

Seems like everything always happens all at once. I've been weighing the pros and cons, I hope I made the right decision and didn't settle too early. There is a lot of room for advancement and the employees I met seem sincerely happy there.

We went to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center today in Laguna. They rehabilitate sea lions and other mammals that beach themselves. They brought 5 in just yesterday from OC beaches but they seem to rehabilitate and release fairly quickly

Dad is walking, making sense and they're sending him home...today hopefully Honestly the past few years my once charismatic,happy go lucky dad has become cranky due to getting older and health problems I guess. He now sounds like his old self. I think he's so thankful and thrilled to have made it through this he's "happy".
