Most moving u2 lines

Just wondering if anyone else has lines from u2 songs that giv tingles down the spine or brings a tear to the eye?

My two personal faves are from one "we re one, but were not the same" as it really strikes a chord wi me and from one tree hill.."al see you again, as the stars fall from the skies and the moon has turned red, over one tree hill"

Anyone care to add?

Good topic,

Lets see, well off the top of my head:

RTSS - the last verse gives me chills:

She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes.
She will suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand still.

Gone:

'Cause I'm already gone
Felt that way all along.
Closer to you every day
I didn't want it that much anyway.

Pretty much all of WUDM, but this part especialy:

Listen to the words they'll tell you what to do
Listen over the rhythm that's confusing you
Listen to the reed in the saxophone
Listen over the hum of the radio
Listen over the sound of blades in rotation
Listen through the traffic and circulation
Listen as hope and peace try to rhyme
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

Kite:

I'm a man, I'm not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to know what it is will break you
I don't know where the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
I don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

Why has this thread been moved? this room is for, and I quote, "Discussion of song lyrics and interpretations" where as ETYKIW " is the general discussion area, primarily to be used for reactions and thoughts about U2".

its a general question, asking for ppls thoughts, am not asking for interpritations or anything.

Am not used to it in here (and am not kidding) and i dont like it!!

The thinkin behind this thread was that i was oon the bus wi mp3 player listening to One. Along came that line, and it really hit me as I can really relate to it to a situation in my life. It actually did bring a tear to my eye. It never had that big an impact on me before.

There are so many....

Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across a dead end street

He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
( I have part of this on inscribed on a bracelet)

And we live by the side of the road
On the side of a hill as the valley explodes
Dislocated, suffocated
The land grows weary of its own

The cities a flood and our love turns to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind, trampled in dust
(gives me chills)

Running to Stand Still, One Tree Hill - sends chills all over.

Our love runs cold in the caverns of the night

Mothers of the Disapeared.
(every word is beautiful...especially See their tears in the rainfall and the twinkling melody behind it.)

You say you'll give me eyes in a moon of blindness

You miss too much these days if you stop to think

Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief
All kill their inspiration and sing about their grief

Dressed up like a car crash
The wheels are turning but you're upside down

Tonight the moon has drawn its curtains
It's a private show
No one else going to know I'm wanting

I'm not afraid of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me
That I haven't already heard

You could have flown away
A singing bird in an open cage
Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

In the stillness of the evening
When the sun has had its day
I heard your voice whispering
Come away now (just has special meaning)

All of Kite

Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own

I really shouldn't respond to these questions....

Actually this definitely is a discussion of song lyrics. There's a picture of this thread next to the "Threads that Make Perfect Sense to be Moved from Everything You Know Is Wrong to It's a Musical Journey (<- LOL Larry) Based on Subject of Lyrics" entry in the Interference Guide to Moving Threads as a Moderator.

I'd say the most MOVING lines are in Mothers of the Disappeared.

All of The Joshu Tree.

Mostly sticks in my mind "a link is lost, the chain undone".

To JCOSTER, what song is the line" tonight the moon has drawn its curtains..." from, I can't place it. And i know what you mean, between Bono's voice, the music and the lyrics, i am at the point where i have to stop and listen, can't multitask -just sit and visualize...it really is a problem!!!

and TO elevated_u2_fan, what song is WUDM, i am a blank on this one.

THANKS !!

Right now I'm thinking of:

"Is there a time for different colours, different names you find so hard to spell"

"All the secrets and no one to tell"

There are many more I know... but these are the ones that came to my head when I read the title of this topic.

Can I answer these questions?
"Tonight the moon has drawn its curtains" is from "If you wear that Velvet Dress"
WUDM - "Wake up dead man"
Yes, all those anagramms get me confused all the time.
