Retro Island Album Game: Round 2, Match 4
Please vote for the playlist you LIKE THE MOST.
Welcome to the fourth and final match of the second round of the Interference Retro Island Album Game! In this competition, instead of being stranded on a desert island and seeking the best playlist to enjoy while there, we're heading off to Retro Island to savour the best that the punk/new wave genre of the late 70's and 80's has to offer. For every win, each player will receive three points. If there is a tie, each player gets two points. If a player loses a match but is within three votes of the winner, that player will earn a single point. Current standings will be displayed at the end of each round. KhanadaRhodes and VintagePunk face off in this match. Below are their playlists. If you don't know the songs, or wish to hear how each playlist flows, feel free to check out the Desert Island website. ![]() Forum name: KhanadaRhodes ![]() The 80s Wankfest 1. INXS - "Stay Young" - Underneath The Colours (3:26) 1981 Total runtime: 79:01 Forum name: VintagePunk ![]() Devolution: A Punk Retrospective 1975 - 1980 I began composing this list by jotting down a few of my favourite songs and artists of the era, and before long I noticed a definite trend - pretty much all of my choices could be encompassed within the years 1975 to 1980. Those years define the genre for me. Within those years you could find the latter phases of proto-punk, the rise of punk in its purest form, and the birth and foundation of post-punk and new wave. What I've attempted to do is to build a list that includes some of the essential artists of this period. Depending on your familiarity with the era, you may know many of these, or just a few. In selecting songs, for the most part, I tried to avoid ones that have been played so often over the years that they're almost a part of our collective pop culture consciousness. Instead, I tried to include lesser known but amazing tracks that casual listeners of or newcomers to this genre might not know as well. I hope that this collection conveys to each of you the energy and excitement of this groundbreaking period in music. Note: The date at the end of each track indicates the original year of release. 1) Patti Smith - "Gloria: In Excelsis Deo/Gloria" - Horses (5:56) 1975 2) Television - "Friction" - Marquis Moon (4:45) 1977 3) Ian Dury and the Blockheads - "Sex and Drugs and Rock'n'Roll" - Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll [single] (3:15) 1977 4) Sex Pistols - "Pretty Vacant" - Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols (3:15) 1977 5) Ramones - "I'm Affected" - End of The Century (2:55) 1980 6) Joe Jackson - "I'm the Man" - I'm The Man (3:59) 1979 7) Pretenders - "Precious" - Pretenders (3:37) 1980 8) The Police - "Regatta de Blanc" - Regatta de Blanc (3:06) 1979 9) Blondie - "Fade Away, Radiate" - Parallel Lines (4:02) 1978 10) The Clash - "Rudie Can't Fail" - London Calling (3:29) 1979 11) Boomtown Rats - "Windchill Factor (Minus Zero)" - The Fine Art of Surfacing (4:37) 1979 12) XTC - "Making Plans for Nigel" - Drums and Wires (4:13) 1979 13) Alice Cooper - "Clones (We're All)" - Flush the Fashion (3:01) 1980 14) Adam and the Ants - "Ant Music" - Kings of the wild Frontier (3:38) 1980 15) Buzzcocks - "Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't Have)?" - Love Bites (2:41) 1978 16) Squeeze - "Another Nail in My Heart" - Argybargy (2:57) 1980 17) Talking Heads - "Life During Wartime" - Once in A Lifetime - The Best of Talking Heads (5:05) 1979 18) B-52's - "Private Idaho" - Wild Planet (3:38) 1980 19) The Tubes - "White Punks On Dope" - The Tubes (6:44) 1975 20) Sid Vicious - "My Way" - My Way [single] (4:04) 1978 Running Time: 78:57 UP NEXT: hardyharhar vs. Screwtape2 Competition Master List.
