(2-22-2008) U2 to perform tribute to Irish folk singer - DigitalSpy*

U2 to perform tribute to Irish folk singer

By Simon Reynolds

U2, Andrea Corr, Sinead O'Connor, The Dubliners and Kila will perform a tribute to folk singer Ronnie Drew on Ireland's The Late Late Show.

'The Ballad of Ronnie Drew' is a tribute to the legendary Irish singer who is currently suffering from cancer.

U2 frontman Bono said: "When you're fighting cancer your mood is critical. We want Ronnie to know how much he is respected and loved."

The track is available as a digital download and will be released as a physical CD single next week. All proceeds are going to the Irish Cancer Society.

Famous Irish artists including Shane McGowan, Bob Geldof, Ronan Keating and Once star Glen Hansard have also contributed to the track.
