Good luck on your trip

4.5 hours in a car with my siamese would be horrible . I love her, but every time she's in the carrier in the car, she makes noises like she's possessed.

Max cried and howled for probably the first 3 hours of the trip. I was ready to take a shift driving the big moving van that MrSwan was driving. I just put CDs in and sang with him.

We took Beckham to Phil's parents in Iowa, so an 8 hour drive each way. He was just a kitten and I couldn't bear to leave him with my roommates. He HOWLED all the way to Chicago (3.5 hours) and then relaxed. We had a litter box for him since he was so young and he did use it so we stopped at a gas station to clean it.

Yes, you did--and I thank you for it, and so does Callie. I had such a hole in my heart following the death of my 20-1/2-year-old Miss Purrl a few weeks earlier, and this little imp was just the thing to help heal that hole.

P.S. Jackie is beautiful!

Jackie's a snot. He still snorts and whines if he doesn't want to be bothered.

Smokey, OTOH, is a sweetie. He unfortunately now recognizes the sound of the water from the refrigerator and thinks he gets a drink out of my glass.

After my sweet old man cat, Maxie, died ... I knew there'd be another cat in my future. After about a year, I started looking at the "adoption agencies" here in Orlando. I had set my sights on a little guy that had been in an accident -- I even sent some $ to help with his care, but they decided to let their vet's mother adopt him. And then I saw this (and he became my Smokey). And look at the ears he had to grow into:

He had two brothers and 1 sister, but I wanted the "orange one," since the first cat I remember (Mooneyes) was an orange and white boy. We actually went to the adoption and Smokey wasn't there (he had respiratory problems), so we quickly snatched his brother out of the cage (and he fell asleep in my hubbie's arms -- amidst all the hubbub in a Petsmart). And this became our hot or cold, snobby or rubby, Jackie:

OMG. Lovey and Bela had a fight earlier and Lovey made Bela's leg bleed. I've not had to separate them like I use too because they just seemed to be getting along better. But tonight Bela was low growling at Lovey and she attacked.
Scared the shit out of me and Bela's heart was going a hundred miles an hour when I picked her up to look at her missing paw area that was bleeding.
God, I wish Bela wouldn't growl in the way she does and I wish Lovey hadn't attacked her. Can't they both just get along..I wish for this

Sorry to hear they got into it tonight. This hasn't happened for a while, has it? Hopefully it was just something fleeting that made Bela bitchy, and they'll go back to tolerating each other again.

The other night we kept hearing growling off and on from our bunch. When you have as many as we do, it's not always easy to see who it's coming from. We thought it was from one of the tabbies, but we kept looking and finally saw that it was Zoey, our little torbi girl. She had a silk flower from an old wedding bouquet the kittens had found and torn apart, and she was playing with it, and guarding it with her life! The funny part is, she's sooo tiny compared to the others (imagine a 6 yr old kid amongst a bunch of 10 or 11 yr olds, that's what she's like), and is usually *very* easy going and affectionate with us and her brothers and sister. Oh my god, I swear that if any of them had tried to take the flower from her, she would have ripped their heads off.

The picture that hooked me (Smokey):

And the "other brother" (Jack -- who we got a week before Smokey and he became the leader):

Hopefully, they'll "stick" this time!

Hey girls, when you have visitors, do the cats run away? Or maybe they all stay? Or some stay and others hide?

One of ours hides, but the other would sit there and just stare at the person, LOL!
