I'm getting ready to take Max to the vet and I don't have a very good feeling about the outcome. He hasn't been eating well, has lost weight, and just seems to be winding down. Max is old (I think 18 or so) and has a variety of health issues.

We're back home. The vet suspects his kidneys are failing, so he's getting sub q fluids (he got some at the vet and I'm to do it at home too) and they took blood and urine for tests. We should know more by Monday and possibly tomorrow. With any luck the iv fluids will give him more good time...he is still interested in things, so I want him to be able to enjoy his life if he can.
Thanks for all the and good wishes. ![]() |

He's still a remarkably happy and active cat, and he's interested in eating (even though he doesn't eat much), so maybe this will get him closer to normal again.

We did sub-q fluids on our Maxie for 2 years. One hint a vet gave us: warm the bag of fluids in a sink of warm water before you administer, it'll feel a lot better to the kitty!! I used to hang the bag on a pole lamp, my DH would hold Max and rub him and I'd do the sticking. He was pretty good about it most of the time. Good luck and hugs to you and your kitteh!

Last night, Abby (our calico girl) fell from a railing in our upstairs hallway beside our stairs, onto the stairs, and then bounced down some steps.
She got up immediately and seemed completely fine, but within a couple hours she started to limp. We put the other kittens up in their room for the night, but left her down with us. We stayed up all night with her, and debated on whether or not to take her to the emergency clinic right then and there. She stayed pretty close to us all night, although at times she was still walking, and jumping up on things. What concerned me was that her breathing seemed to be too rapid. We actually brought a couple of other kittens down for a few minutes to compare her with, and her respiration did seem a bit faster than theirs, but overall, she seemed fine otherwise - alert, eating, not in any noticeable pain, it didn't bother her if we touched her leg. We decided to get some sleep and see how she was today. I was up every hour or two to check on her, and then when we got up for the day and she started moving around, she was still limping a little, but it was less pronounced than it was last night. So, the plan is now that we'll watch her till Monday, and if she doesn't continue to improve, we'll take her in then. Of course, if she got worse at all, we'd take her in right away. Poor baby It was scary.Eta - oh yeah, so far today, I've caught her back up on that railing twice. ![]() I hope things are improving for Max, Indra ![]()

If she is putting at least some weight on the leg, it is very unlikely that she broke anything-
Keep an eye on her breathing, I would be concerned if she was obviously breathing with more effort than the other kittens (like really pushing her belly muscles) or if she was breathing with her mouth open. She may have bruised her lung(s) in the fall, but kittens are pretty tough/bouncy little things, she'll probably be fine ![]()
