if she allows you to touch her leg it should be fine cats start acting odd if something's up... our cat fell out of a tree(probably, we dont'know for sure) and when she got home she was slightly limping, her back was a no touch area and she went to sleep right away, but not on any usual place..

She may have bruised her lung(s) in the fall, but kittens are pretty tough/bouncy little things, she'll probably be fine
Thanks, that's reassuring. We looked online for information last night, and I saw a response to a post a lot like our situation by a vet, and she recommended that the person wait 12 hrs and reassess.

She's lying next to me sleeping right now, and I noticed a few minutes ago that her breathing seems normal. Last night it seemed rapid and shallow. Not laboured or more effortful at all, and no mouth breathing. But then, it was a little hard to tell, and I wasn't completely sure that I was actually feeling or seeing the breaths, as opposed to purring motions. We also checked her gums for colour, pressing on them, and they were fine.

As for putting weight on her leg, yes, she seems to be. And, she's pushing off it to jump, and she was scratching with her front legs last night and today. The way the limping didn't start for a few hours, I sort of assumed that it was a muscle, or that she bruised something.

I thought my days of staying up all night worrying about sick children were over.

Thanks again.

For a while it wasn't a problem because we took it as a wake-up call to keep on top of the laundry and also use some sort of hamper system rather than piling it in the basement. Anyway, tonight I decided to wash all those clothes really well so I bought that Nature's Miracle stuff. I also read that plain vinegar works, so I doused the clothes with the entire bottle of Nature's Miracle and a 1 gal. jug of vinegar and then washed it normally in two loads (varying amounts of bleach) and it seems to have worked. There were a lot of products to choose from and I have no clue if the vinegar made any difference or not. Should I stick with Nature's Miracle if it happens again? Luckily, she has only ever peed on these clothes so they are fairly easy to clean. Never on the carpets or rugs. I think the people who lived here before us had dirty cats b/c the basement has always smelled a little off. When I have more time and money I want to coat the floor with Nature's Miracle or whatever product you guys recommend. There's probably old cat pee in the cement which would be why she peed on those clothes on the floor. No UTI or anything.
Thankfully I have not needed to use it at home (just at work) but Nature's Miracle is my top choice. Hopefully what you did with the washing will take care of it - though there certainly could be something about the floor there from previous cats. Is it a place you could tolerate having a litterbox so there is an 'ok' place for them to go to the bathroom around that area?

There are some cats that for whatever reason develop a liking for peeing on dirty clothes/laundry piles, so I would definitely try to keep dirty things in closed hampers to dissuade her from doing it in the future...

Lily used to do this when I cleaned the litter - I think it is a kitten thing, she used to do it every time, and now at 2 years old I can't remember the last time she rolled in it (never scolded her for it, just out grew it I guess). She does have the habit of christening one of the boxes immediately after (or sometimes in process!) of the cleaning them

Thanks for all the and good wishes.
Let me know if you're having any problems giving the fluids, I might be able to help troubleshoot - are you giving him some daily? Another thing that can help his kidneys is to encourage his water intake by feeding all (or mostly) wet/canned food. It's even better if he'll eat it soupy with extra water, chicken/beef broth, or clam juice (easier than tuna juice). If his appetite improves, ask your vet about prescription food formulated to reduce the workload on the kidneys (lower protein). Good luck

Yeah, I think you're right. Went through this today with Jack. He made sure he "went" during the cleaning and Max jumped in the bucket of new litter I had just bought. I walked out of the room and they followed.
Then I shut the door behind them.
Live and learn..

Oh VP how scary!! It sounds like she'll be ok though. She was probably breathing heavy from being scared of the fall? Hugs to you and Abby

VP -- I know how scary this is. Jack ("The Most Opinionated Cat in the World") jumps up on the transom over the doorway to my daughter's side of the house (via the entertainment center). Scares the bejibbers out of me each time he does it. He doesn't just lay up there either, he messes with the door, hangs over it, etc. He hasn't fallen yet (that I know of!)

I don't know if we can post youtube videos here, but he's about twice as big as this now--fills up the whole transom! (I also note that they have links to videos under mine. I think the only one that is *mine* is the Disneyworld castle lit up at Christmas time!)

Same way he gets up, via the entertainment center. Sure wish I were as sure-footed as my kittehs are!

Beckham is so gross! We have this giant cat tree that came with my foster cats and when they got adopted, no one wanted the cat tree so I kept it. Beckham usually sits on the top level and Posh on the second to the top. Today Beckham was on top and he barfed on the top, over the side, and onto the level below! It's carpeted...that was fun to clean up.

To make up for the TMI-ness of that story....
