4. Rock and Roll
5. Going to California
6. Black Dog
7. Misty Mountain Hop
8. The Battle of Evermore
To be honest it is a little bit strange that you rank Going to California and Black Dog behind Four Sticks, but it is your first listen (right?) and either way that's fucking awesome that you got around to hearing IV.

It is a seminal album and there is no reason why anyone should live a lifetime on Earth without listening to it at least once.

Congrats. And, yeah, I'm glad you like When the Levee Breaks. Wow, what a fucking powerful song that is.

I do prefer Revolver, but you seriously cannot go wrong here.

Potato, potato.

Rubber Soul and Revolver are two of the most important and, at the same time, enjoyable albums of all time. Same with all of the Beatles work post '65...

Sgt. Pepp, MMT, Self-titled, Let it Be, Abbey Road...

It's not all Led Zeppelin. It's just this particular album. I was surprised by the first three, especially the first.

I'm re-listening to IV.

I've now heard four Beatles albums, and I'd rank them:

1. Abbey Road
2. Revolver
3. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
4. Rubber Soul

They all need re-listens, though.

It is my first listen. Usually, my rankings change quite a bit up until the fifth or sixth listen or so.

Revolver is my favorite Beatles album.

Both it and Abbey Road greatly exceeded my expectations, whereas Sgt. Pepper fell below the expectations I had.

Three songs into IV again, and it's:

1. Rock and Roll
2. Black Dog
3. The Battle of Evermore

PFan, glad you are getting around to Zep and the Beatles. I can never overstate how awesome I find Zep to be.

How I managed to not leap through the computer to kill anyone that did not vote for a Zep victory over Coldplay I will never know. I'm the first person to babble about taste being subjective, but jesus christ.......

It's a perfect example of the Beatles' collective songwriting prowess. Revolver is wonderful, but has always felt like a collection of (great) songs to me and nothing more.

Those who voted Coldplay over Led Zeppelin were entirely too predictable.

The main focus of the next couple of weeks for me will be Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, and R.E.M. After that, some of the one-off albums people have recommended, including the couple of Catherine Wheel albums you've recommended.

I'm taking R.E.M. and Led Zeppelin in order, so that'll take some time.

1. Stairway to Heaven
2. Rock and Roll
3. Four Sticks
4. Misty Mountain Hop
5. Black Dog
6. The Battle of Evermore

I really don't like Four Sticks. Plant sounds like he's on helium for much of the song, and Page just repeats the same set of riffs over and over.

The only one that I really don't like is Evermore. I dug the mandolin sound in Gallows' Pole much more than that.

I'm not a big Four Sticks fan, either, and would rank it much lower....but, that's just me.

Coldplay over Zep. I'm still trying to maintain some level of calm over that. Hopefully more voters will stroll into that thread and inject some reality into that specific match-up.

Then again, I voted for the Catherine Wheel over Lennon, so, what does that say about me? I always found Lennon's solo work to be overrated. There are solo songs of his that I greatly like, but overall, if I'm honest, I'd much rather listen to the CW than solo Lennon. Maybe people see Coldplay like I see CW. Of course, CW's frontman was not a total fucking tool, so there's that.

That assumes that people regard Lennon by himself as highly as Led Zeppelin as a whole, which I don't think is accurate. People usually like specific Beatles.

I've not yet heard albums by either Catherine Wheel or John Lennon, so I cannot really say, though the few Lennon solo songs I've heard were decent but nothing special.
