Speaking of bleak movies:

Blow Out's a sweet thriller from the early '80s directed by Brian De Palma with John Travolta (surprisingly good), John Lithgow, Nancy Allen, and the cop from NYPD Blue. Travolta's a sound guy who records the death of a presidential candidate and sets out to prove it was a murder and not an accident, a loose remake of Antonioni's Blow Up. It's a really well-made, bleak flick, you guys should check it out if you haven't already.

7/10

It was ok. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than "Body Double" , but maybe not as good as "Dressed To Kill".

Something at the very climatic ending of "Blow Out" made me laugh hysterically . . . and I don't think it was supposed to make me laugh. I think it was the scream in the earpiece and how he jumped, or something like that.

It was a bit cheesy, that's for sure, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it and Travolta's performance in it. The beginning really fucks with you, too.

Just saw this. L.A. Confidential is one of my favourite films ever, right from when I first saw it. The casting is great and Hanson nails the look and feel of 1950s Hollywood as epitomised in too many classic Hollywood noirs / police procedurals to mention. Although special mention must go to Sunset Boulevard (make a note of that one YLB).

And don't give up on Lynch. From The Elephant Man and The Straight Story through to Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive, there's plenty of variety to his work.

Sunset's on the noir list, so it's all good.

I'm not ready to give up on Lynch yet, I've got The Elephant Man and Wild at Heart saved on DVR to watch sometime. I'd like to enjoy his work more than just appreciate it though, you know? Maybe it'll happen.

I've already mentioned my affection for Wall-E in here. This story made me love it, and Pixar, even more.

Wall-E and the Crying Girl

After reading this, Pixar shot through the top of my Cool-ometer.

YLB, this made you laugh? Things like this remind me why your name is YLB in the first place.

One Day In September

A 1999 documentary about the kidnap and murder of members of the Israeli Olympic team in Munich in 1972, featuring extensive interviews with the lone (I believe?) surviving Palestinian terrorist involved in the attacks, now living in hiding somewhere in Africa (or was at the time).

What can you say about something so tragic? All I can think to say is that it was astounding to see how it was handled. What an unimaginable clusterfuck.

A very well done documentary. It makes me want to go back and watch Spielberg's Munich again.

HellBoy II

Great look.

Del Toro sets a new standard.

Lucas wishes he was this good.

I have seen so many Comic Book movie's this year, it is hard to stand out.

This does.

8/10

I rented the installment of Pirates of the Caribbean and could only watch the first 10 mins. of it. I was highly disappointed in the movie. I found it to be boring, pointless and the plot made zero sense to me. I guess there was a good reason that I waited over a year to watch it.
